Completely removing McAfee Antivirus.

Recently I have switched antivirus programs from McAfee to Norton but after uninstalling McAfee I noticed that certain elements of it had remained on my hard drive. This appears to be yet another case of software manafacturers deciding that they know what's best for us and as a Windows Vista user I know all about "big brother"software but I'll save that rant for another day.

Anyway to get back to my McAfee problem after a bit of Googling I found that there is a tool available for free download that will completely remove all traces of McAfee from your hardrive and so if you have are using McAfee Antivirus and want to completely remove it from your computer the steps to follow go like this:-

Step 1: Download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool and save it to your desktop.

Step 2: Go to Start and then Control Panel, and then Add/Remove Programs

Step 3: Select Your McAfee product from the list and select Remove.

Step 4: Once removal is complete, reboot your computer.

Step 5: Run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool you downloaded to your desktop
earlier.

Step 6: once the tool completes, restart your computer and McAfee removal is now complete.

You will now be completely McAfee free and it will not be needlessly tying up space on your hardrive.

As for the Norton product that I'm now using it seems to be just fine and not too much of a drain on my system and although it might not be to everybody's taste I like the Vista sidebar gadget that comes with Norton showing you your protection level in real time and allowing you to access the program with one click from your sidebar.

Have a great and safe day.Lou Smorals.
